Your Money and Your Mental Health

  • Professionals: $90
  • Students: $72

This workshop will identify ways of increasing your savings and reducing missed opportunities.  If you or your clients are often anxious about money or just do not know much about how to handle money successfully, this three-hour workshop on financial wellness will help you to better handle decisions about the purpose and use of money in your life. The trainers will talk about how to handle your money in ways that promote mental health and reduce unproductive worrying.

Regardless of whether one currently has a lot of money or just a little, most of us worry about whether we have enough or too little money to make it through life. Within a family there is often conflict around spending and saving. Each of us has learned from our family of origin ways of handling scarcity and affluence, but those ways are sometimes not keeping up with the times.

In the first hour, participants will have the opportunity to examine our attitudes toward money and how we were taught to handle money as we grew up. We will take a look at what we value in life and how our money can help us live those values. During the second hour, the trainers will present methods and strategies which encourage effective money management. During the final hour, each participant will be able to create a plan that includes goal setting, information gathering and changes in behavior that can promote increased prosperity and set participants on a course toward financial success.

Trainer: Caroline Sparks, PhD, former Director of Health Promotion in the Milken Institute School of Public Health at The George Washington University
